What does it look like I am dealing with here?

There was some crappy overspray/respray via rattle can that was done to my car before I bought it and I have been attempting to make it look decent. Unfortunately I have failed.

I have been using fine steel wool and graffiti removal and had success with my hood, but the right rear fender I have not had much luck. Plus the roof looks like they removed the base color before spraying it white. I guess I am a little confused as a whole.

    Comments? Suggestions? Ugg...

Here is the before of the hood.

    And after.

The rest of the car looked much the same. But here is after about an hours work on the rear.

Well, the good news is the body looks really straight.

Bad (or really good news) is you have to re-paint it. The payoff will totally be worth it though.

I was in the same boat (aside from having to fill two bullet holes and a few dents) I just sprayed the car panel by panel with Rustoleum satin black. (really anything was better than the shoddy peeling respray it had)

Thanks for the encouraging post. It is strange how there are several sets of primer before the base coat went on. I simply don't know enough an out bodywork to understand what I am seeing.

Do you have any full pics of your car other than in your signature? I am thinking that for the time being I am going to have to do a similar thing with a rustoleum job.

        Sure

I went with rustoleum because I don't care, with even the slightest amount of care you can do better.

There was a guy online who rolled his paint on, and TBH it came out really nice. He had a process though. Let me see if a google search yeailds anything.

Here is one, not the one I was thinking of..

You might not care, but in the photos it looks fantastic! So you said sprayed so that implies rattle can, right?

I remember reading that thread a while ago. It is impressive. I have a feel for wetsanding now and I know that is part of the process. At this point, I have nothing to lose. If I can just find a gun metal grey...

I'm really tempted to hop on the rattle can paint job boat. Builds character? Sure.

What did you do to prep? Did you take it down to primer? Looks like your very small amount of care turned out pretty nice, actually.
