Painting engine bay/support parts prior to full repaint

Anyone have to paint the engine bay several months/year ahead of the whole car? Do you buy a whole bunch of the paint that will cover the whole car at the same time and then take it and the parts to get painted?

Not sure how to go about this.

buy enough for just what you will be painting at any given time, paint will seperate if its just left in a binder or harden if it has reducer.

use the same product line and the same paint code and you will be good with color matching
