    repairing my dented rearend...

So I bought my car about a month ago and there were two dents on the rear, just above and below the tail light on the corner of the rear quarter panel. Well, after getting sick of looking at it I decided to do something about it. I'll post progress pics as I move along.. I forgot to take before pics, but have some pics up to tonight.

Removed old paint and working the dent out..

Lightweight filler to smooth things back out..

    first coat of primer..

are you repainting the whole car, or just going to blend in where you did the repair work.

just blending where I did the repair work. I got some paint on today and started to wetsand the blended area. I can't believe how good it matches and how smooth it's turning out. I just sanded one small area to make sure everything was going to match up, tomorrow I'll throw on a few more coats of paint and then wednesday I'll wetsand the rest. I'll snap some pics tomorrow once the paint is added.

Thanks for the compliment.. I'm stoked at how good it's turning out. I was nervous as I've never done any body work before. Just going by what I've learned by reading up at www.autobody101.com

man that looks really good. Wish i has a white car so the paint would blend better. Apparently its pretty hard on a black car.

It's not that easy on a white car either. The paint is defenately a slightly different shade, so I had to do a gradual blend. Once it's wetsanded and polished anyone without a trained eye should have a seriously hard time telling. www.paintscratch.com so far the product is top notch.

you could repaint that entire quarter, to the door and trunk lid, then the only spot to blend is the C piller, aslong as the colors are hardly off, no one would notice.... less wet sanding anyway....

                other wise looks good....

I actually painted about half the quarter panel. I used tape made specifically for no hard line, faded the paint over toward it. During wet sanding it's starting to blend together perfectly. Anyone without a trained eye would not be able to tell the rear has been repaired. I'll take pics when I'm finished polishing. Paint still has to cure a bit longer.

Finished the paint work today, still have some wetsanding and polishing to do, but this pic gives an idea of how good the colormatch is and how smooth the transition is.

body work isn't really that hard, the hard part is making it last.

Actually, making it last isn't too hard. If you get quality paint and take your time being perfect with the prep work. I watched someone do a repair similar to mine a few years ago, it's the method I followed and his is still holding strong. If you do a crap prep job and use crap products, obviously it's not going to last very long. Do it right the first time.

The further I get with the camera the better it looks. I'll snap some daylight/outside pics tomorrow.
