are super early e30 trunklids different?

I replaced the original trunklid of my '83 323i with one from a '87 325es, but the new lid does not align correctly. The rear of it (toward the hinge) sits too low when the trunk is closed, to the point where it's difficult to close the trunk.

Anyone ever hear of something like this? I can fix it with some spacing, but would rather have a lid that mounts properly.

I have checked all part #s, there doesn't seem to be a difference. There also doesn't appear to be any damage to either trunklid.

it says basically to use spacers... guess I'm stuck doing that.

They're all the same as far as I've ever seen.
