So my 87 325is has been a Massachussettes car all it's life. driven in all kinds of weather, even salty winter roads. It also has a garage it lives in as well. dispite all this winter use, the only visible rust on the car is up under the license plate lights (I'll be fixing it shortly). My undercoating seems to be in good condition, but what I'm worried about is the fender wells and rear quarter wells getting snow packed and rusting from the salt in the 'lips' that don't have undercoating. I've seen what kind of havoc this can cause and I'd like to avoid it. whenever I wash the car I always soap up a rag and really scrub under there, but I won't be able to do that in the winter. so my question is, is it safe to apply a coat of rust encapsulator in the lips of the arches, and then spray some undercoating? What else should I do? I paint my rockers with matte black rustoleum almost every summer, and the car has stock front mudflaps. what else do you suggest?
