    MTech I spoiler install- Help

    Howdy,

I am going to try to install my rear spoiler, only problem is, my trunk doesnt have the predrilled holes. So i need to make them. Anyone have instructions on how to go about this? Advice/rant/hate is all welcomed!

There is a DIY for drilling here on the site if you search.

I opted to not drill the trunk and in stead cut the studs on the spoiler and double sided taped it to the car. It's held up very well.

How long have you had it taped for?

Once that spoiler goes on, I'm sure you'll leave it on. Drill the holes, its not a big deal.

My brother also used some heavy duty double sided tape and you'd swear it's bolted on by how rigid it is.
Anyways, I wouldn't opt for removing the studs on an mtech1.
Find someone with an IS spoiler on their trunk and use that to make a stencil and take home.

On later cars (e46 M3s for example), BMW attached spoilers with doublesided tape from the factory. Not sure if that's just lip spoilers, Mtech1s are pretty substantial

              Haha...just behind the keyboard?

That sounds like a good plan also. Thx

My E39 had a small trunk lip which was taped but as you said, these MT1 spoilers are hefty...

...make a template and drill the holes. These spoilers are heavier than the OEM. Use either stainless or brass alloy hardware.

I spoke to someone who said i can drill the holes from underneath the trunk since there are already slots where the plastic nut would screw for the lighter IS spoilers. Will have to take a look this weekend.

6 months, it's still as solid as it was when I attached it. I wash my car twice a week and spray the shit out of it with the pressure washer.

But like people are saying, they are heaver than is spoilers.

Did you drill? Your trunk lid is worth $50 in perfect condition. That mtech 1 is worth a bit more, I know what I'd cut up.
Drive it hard. Maintain it well.

Not yet. I just got some schematics to the exact placement of where the holes should be drilled so i'm going to try and let it rip this weekend. I'll report back soon.

Anyone know what size nuts screw into the spoiler studs? If not no big deal ill prob just buy a variety size and hope to get lucky.

                              Thanks
