How much is this going to set me back? Rust repair

    Hi R3v,

I'm a mechanic before a body guy so I have very little experience doing any kind of resto body work. I'm buying this sixer for a song and I was wondering if anyone knew how much it would cost or what the process would be to fixing the rust in the below pictures? It doesn't look like there's any rust anywhere other than on the rear arches.

Unfortunately its in the rear which means I can't just replace the fenders they would need to be cut & welded or ground down and bondoed?

    Thanks!

Bondo will not fix that. Bondo is for fixing dents and nothing else. That metal needs to be cut out and replace. Go through my build thread. I've replaced 2 1/4 panels and countless other spots due to rust. Should give you an idea of the work that's needed.

Gotchya thanks man, Always been a fan of your build thread. I know its hard to put a price on anything with only two pictures of different spots of rust but what do you think the cost of this would be at a body shop? $2k? more?

Really depends. That rust could just be on the outter panel or could have gone all the way to the wheel housing which would mean that would need cut out. If you bought all the panels and just asked them to cut and weld the new one in and not paint or do bondo work I bet you could be in that for under 1k with parts and labor.

if there is rust anywhere then chances are there is rust everywhere. it's just hidden under your carpet and seam sealer. once you cut into that you may be surprised how deep the cancer has most likely gone haha

Yea general rule of thumb is the rust is atleast 30% worse then what you can see.

Throw some badass fender flares on that B and ride it till the wheels fall off!

Like the others have pointed out, that rust is probably just the tip of the iceberg. I would take out the seats and carpeting and do a close examination for rust. Then decide how you want to proceed.

                    +1

I rented a shop and removed my seats and carpet and found some behind the rockers. Gonna get that all cleaned up before proceeding any further
If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!
