Chrome window trim blackening: is plasti-dip a good option?

I've seen it suggested before on different parts of the inter webs, but I have questions.

Has anyone done it here instead of spraying, and if so did you have any durability issues? My main concern is dipping them and then in about 3 months it's pealing all over the place.

I've never had any peeling issues. Its really easy to fix too, either spray more on or use acetone which will re-liquify it.

I used black plastidip on my side door molding about a year ago. Daily driving with many car washes and winter driving and its still on. I did a quick job so the lines weren't perfect but it looks the same now. No peeling.

My thoughts were that it wasn't permanent and I could peel it off it needed (haven't wanted to) and that it was quick and cheap for decent results.

I wasn't sure if there would be issues with spraying over an area or not, nor did I know about acetone. Thanks!

That is my rationale for doing it as well. No reason to do something permanent when it doesn't have to be.

Thanks for the info guys, I think I'll be doing this next week, I have 3 days off and plan to take care of a few things in that time. :)

I did Lola's trim this way. Details in her build thread, linked in my signature.

            Holy hell, great build!

Btw, may I ask what you paid for that plate filler? Love the look, reminds me of my old mk2 Jetta's. And what the trunk wing is. I'm still not familiar with all the different bmw style wings lol.

Thanks! I got the plate filler from a forum member here, though I don't recall what I paid for it. The trunk has a standard IS spoiler, also plasti-dipped to cover up aged paint.

I'm going to have to hunt down the plate filler. Between that and the wind splitters... Mmmmm.
