Chroming the Intake Manifold and Valve Cover

As the title reads, I want to chrome my intake manifold and valve cover. The problem is that I don't have a source for doing actual chrome plating on the manifold and I don't think I want to spend the money on that. Can I use a rattle can instead? Has anyone done this? Any help would be appreciated.

you wouldn't want to chrome plate the intake manifold since it's aluminum. Fortunately, you can polish aluminum to a high gloss finish that IMHO looks far better anyways. Rattle canning will A) not look the slightest bit like chrome no matter what the label says and B) peel if it is not engine/high temp paint (which isn't available in chrom AFAIK)
Here is an okay DIY with the fundamentals on how to do it yourself- http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2624332 it's shown on a vr6 manifold, but the concept is the same. Be prepared to spend a lot of time on this if you want a good finish. If you do it right it will have all of the shine of chrome, but will have a deeper finish

        You can chrome plate aluminum.

IMO, go with black or leave it. Chrome would look bad.

Chrome would look pretty bad, but I've seen several that were polished, that looked really good.

it isn't really practical though for cosmetic purposes. Most plating shops will not do it due to the complications involved

Thanks for the comments guys! I have decided to sand and polish the heck out of the intake manifold to create that chrome look on the aluminum.
