I wish I didn't need to make this post but alas, I have discovered damage on my e30. Not sure when it happened or how it happened but what I'd like to know is what this area of the e30 is supposed to look like.

What you're looking at is the engine bay side of the drivers side fender right under the rail for the bonnet roller (I've removed the rail to get a better picture). It looks like a really thin piece of metal from the firewall has disconnected and peeled off from the inner fender. The cable you see on the left is the hood release cable, the blurry thing covering part of the cable is part of the firewall insulation that I've peeled off to get a look under it.
I'd really appreciate it if anyone else can give me a picture of that area from their e30 as a reference. Right now I'm freaking out about the possibility of frame damage and a huge amount of rust on the inner fender. Anyone have experience with this matter?
