I am curious about this as well. My car is in the shop getting the trim painted. It's an experiment but thought I would give it a try. I was wondering if the trim from an E36 would work. I like the "flush mount" look.

And, I believe he's talking about the chrome on the side-trim. Unfortunately, the rear section from a two door later E30 will not fit on the early e30 rear section (different rear arches) I'd just sand down the chrome and paint them.

It's going back to normal. It looked great for quite a while - about 6-8 months. But, as the sun got to it, the difference in pattern of the different trim pieces began to show again. In the right light, they are still nice and black. But in direct sunlight, the difference in the "roughness" of the front and rear pieces is clearly distinct. Not to mention I accidently got wax on the middle piece, and due to the nice "roughness" of the trim piece, I couldn't fully get it out.
When money and time allow, I'm going to replace them all with new. :)- Sean Hayes

old thread, but I just did this today with my side moldings and they look like new, brand spanking new. It only took about an hour start to finish. I used 400 grit and then just went over briefly with 1000 grit and then wiped the acetone over them. I reccomend this to make those side moldings look like new.sigpic

Dupli-Color "Bumper Coating". Has a very mild "gloss"-ness to it that I really appreciate. Ended up hitting everything black on my DD after the PO had nearly everything painted monochromatic.
If you have "texture" on your side rub strips, definately sand them down to smooth. But I highly suggest hitting it with some sort of paint.Need a part? PM me.
