    Hood Insulation - Discoloration?

I recently purchased my 1990 325ix and in the engine bay, there is a yellowish discoloration on the paint and engine components from a very old hood insulation. It's obviously discharged chemicals over the years from the heat and will crumble at the slightest touch. I have new insulation to put in, but was wondering how to get off the yellow? Anybody have experience with this?

Im not really sure on a good method to remove the cosmoline.

    But

It's not the insulation.. it's from a coating that was applied to cars to prevent corrosion during transport from Germany. It was supposed to be sprayed off by dealers but I guess they didn't get the memo.
