A different approach to painted kidneys

"Euro" kidneys have a cutoff from the top, you can see it behind the grilles themselves how the top 1/4 portion of it is blocked. The US ones are completely open.

Now, oddly enough, all early 318i's I see have that "Euro" kidney. Go figure.

I've seen at least 3 differet type of kidneys, all with different openings, and also there are at least 2 different types of drivers side "euro" griles, some have blocked section and some have it open all the way to highbeam. Can't remember if it's a facelift difference or engine or A/C related issue.

Pre facelift cars don't have opening on top of griles for park bulb change.

Mine are painted Lachssilber just like my e30. I painted them when I painted some other parts at the body shop.

It's a small crack in the kidney. I put a couple more coats of paint on after I took those first pics, so it's not as noticeable now.

Today I went ahead and painted the metal rings around my ellipsoids with the same paint, and they came out awesome. Those metal rings were faded to grey and looked like shit, so a fresh coat of paint was just what they needed. Not only that, now the kidneys will have something to match up with in the front end. This is a great way to easily freshen up the front end of your car. Go take a look at the rings around your headlights, I bet they look like hell just like mine did!

It's Rustoleum, it's pretty damn durable shit, it's made for patio furniture and outdoor stuff. And at $2.49 a can, I can stand to repaint them every so often. :D
