    Good CF hood?

Is there ANYONE besides damn VIS that makes a CF hood for e30s? Since mines bashed I figured I would get a CF one (try to free up some weight from that s52)

Don't let this thread just turn into a VIS bash fest, I'm just trying to find another supplier but have had no luck.

Also, whats wrong with the VIS one besides "it doesn't fit right" is it something a body shop could tweak to make fix? I suppose if its my only choice I will have to get a VIS.

There are a few other manufacturers of CF hoods for the E30, but you're looking at about $1k easy, more for some. The VIS hood is really not that bad. I've seen several of them in person, and there's only 2 areas where they're questionable, and with a little creativity with the hood mounting points at the front, you can get it to where it's totally unnoticeable to anyone but you and those who know what to look for. Also, if you install a set of the Evo hood seals, the imperfections hidden even more.

Mashaw, and FiberArtz make one. And the VIS hood isn't as bad as people make it out to be, I've seen one and I'll admit I didn't look for the imperfection, but it didn't stick out to me.

It has a sort of crease/uneven spot, plus the gaps aren't perfect. It's not bad at all for the money I personally think. $350-400.

Mashaw's hood is $750, and fits much better, but is obviously more expensive. Fiber Artz is the same at $850.

Ok, do you think theres a good supplier I could get a VIS from? So if I get one thats just totally whack I can complain and send it back for a new one?

I was going to order up some evo hood seals anyways, so I guess it will all work out. I guess if its just a thing where I need to spend a few hours tweaking it to fit right thats fine with me

Yeah I supposed if the VIS is like half the price it might be worthwhile just to take the small chance. Thanks for the links though, I though Fiber Artz only had fiberglass hoods, Ill have to check them out too.

the VIS hood work best on a dark car (black prefered) with evo 3 hood seals. The issue with the VIS is the curvature front to back is off, so it bows up in the middle. You can play with the mounting points to adjust it up and down to get it to a decent spot. The hood is also narrower, this is where the hood seals help hide that. The part that you can not adjust is the back passenger side corner. The mold is really screwed up there and the tip curves down where the driver's side lines up ok with the fender/a pillar.

As I said, on a black car it's easy to hide those flaws. I have to point them out to people on my car. On a lighter color they will be a bit more obvious. However, for the price and weight savings it's hard to beat a VIS hood.

Ok, I may take my chances with the vis, my m3 is diamonschwartz so hopefully it wont be too noticeable.

The VIS carbon fiber hood isn't too bad on my schwarz e30 with the evo hood seals.

However, if you want a really good one competition concepts makes one for around 1k.

On a diamantzschwarz car, you can't even tell it's got a CF hood untl you're standing right over it. I've seen Cramer's car on several occasions, and it looks titties.

Yeah, I don't really care about the look of it, I just care about the weight savings ;) I have already gotten a good 75lbs out of the engine bay, hopefully this will help a lot more.

I wonder what the stock hood and this weighs...

550 shipped is only slightly more than I paid for mine 2 years ago.
