if you live in an area where you get snow and salt on the roads, I'd recomend putting some seam sealer on the fender edge. From the factory it has sealer all the way along the top lip, and along the rear bottom edge by the door. If you go to an auto parts store they sell automotive seam sealer designed for sealing where body panels join. Without the sealer you run a high risk of getting rust under the edge as the sheet metal isn't painted in most spots.

bmw put that seam sealer there for a reason! so buy some seam sealer from a body shop supply store and smear some on that top edge where it meets the a pillar.

Well, I was about to put it on last night.

got the primer/sealer, I sprayed a generous amount of layers on most areas that would appear to be exposed and/or accumulate water/salt.

I hanged the fender from a doorway to let it dry at room temp (it was in the 30s outside). All is great until, I ran out to get beer, slammed the front door. The wind was enough to rotate the fender 180 and come smashing down on the ground...

hit the ground vertical, with the 2 front "points" digging into the ground then fell on the outer side.
result are a slightly dented upper "tip" above the headlight. I have to re-primer the whole thing.

primer sucks to get off of hardwood floors.

Shit like that will ruin your day!

Reprimed it last night, left it outside to dry a little longer before taking it inside.

I was inspecting my car (ie starring at the engine bay, day dreaming about swaps) and I noticed that my hood (front edge) is really really rusted. Also that the driver fender is starting to show some rust behind the wheel-well.

I may just do all the front body panels in the near future.

clean off the rust and put some por-15 (or your choice of undercoating) on there.
