can alpine white II be color sanded?-please respond asap

i know it has a clear coat on top...because its peeling like an onion!. i want to sand it off and then color sand what's left, is it possible? will it polish up to be shiny? i have zero experience with auto painting and would use my tore up boxers to wash my car if i didn't know any better

Base coat is not designed to have the UV protection of a Clear. When you spray it it comes out flat and all the gloss comes from the clear...in short...no it won't work, you need to start doing body work and sanding and get a repaint.

You would still need to sand, mask and paint, why not go the extra mile for laying a coat of sealer and base down. A non metalic paint isnt all that expensive. I got a gallon of metalic base, gallon of reducer, gallon of clear and activator for like 600ish. Then you need to buy primer, filler, sanding blocks, sand paper, making tape, masking paper and then have a good resperator/place to spray (good gun/compressor) too. If you arent up to the task save your pennies and have it painted at a local shop.

Shop around to get the best price and have them show some of the previous body and paint work that hey have done. Now you can see how a basic repaint can be 3k+.

          thanks....

great insight definitely gives me something to think about regarding a purchase of a car with shot clear coat...the paint is pretty much toast.

You need to do a complete repaint. There is no real way to "fix" peeling clear coat.

I'm doing that right now, the remaining clearcoat is a bitch to sand, the undercoaing is really soft, so i have gotten to bare metal in some places, so I am priming the whole car and painting it all over again :( .

I had never worked so much in all my life, :D

But it's satisfying to look at the difference even at the priming stage, it looks soooo better. ;)
