    Paint question

Hey, I know NOTHING about painting or detailing, so I must ask you guys, because if I ask anyone I know I'll get pointed at and ridiculed :( .

I have a doplhin metallic 325e, and after my e to e engine swap I sorta kinda had to replace my hood. SOMEONE didn't bolt my hood down but told me they did. So at about 2nd gear it flew off and landed behind me. Quite the magestic sight, yet a perfect hood and badge ruined.

I now have a hood coated with a layer of primer with an old layer of paint under it. ( I primered it because the paint was in horrid condition, and I sanded some of the old paint off).
Can I just go to like NAPA auto parts or a painting place and find my paint? My friend's father has a paint gun or system of some sort, and he'd paint for free if I could find the paint...Soo where can I find the cheapest dolphin metallic paint? and is it okay to paint over the primer I sprayed on from a spraycan, despite there being a bit of original paint underneath?

Thank you for your time, many questions to come...
    Such as:
Can I get my faded details back to their black selves?

Since its just the hood, I would take it to a local paint/ body shop an have them squirt it. With paint is should not be more than 100 bucks or so an that would be on the high side an be very good quality paint. Just make sure you have prepped you hood all the way 1st.

Just wet sand the entire hood with 500girt on a sanding block to get everything flat. Oh mist you primer with a guide coat 1st (contrasting color lightly to show high an low spots) sand till its gone. Also if you have afew spots that are low enough that you are burning through the primer an paint put a dab of filler in it, sand till it looks close. Re prime that spot guide coat it agin an sand till smooth.

Thank you very much. It's going to be an interesting project, because paint, primer and I dont quite do well.

Should I use spray can primer?

Go to a local body shop supply company, and talk to them. They will help you with your questions and product needs.

Most body shops that I have talked to reccommend the urethane 2-part primer after sanding the car with #400 if you want to prep it yourself.
