    treatment for rust?

Guys I want to start the preparation of the new project but I need help with rust. I heard about some liquid that takes out the rust and leaves the metal completely clean, it also marks where rust is present or something of that nature.

Please point me in the right direction.

    Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums and I also see your in Miami. Check out the local section, we have a meet coming up. Try to make it if you can. I do not know the name of what your looking for but if your in the Kendall area there is a paint supply store called Metro Paint supplies over off of 137ave and like 120st. By the airport. They sell it and are good people. Good luck!

There is a very specialized tool called a screw driver (or a scratch howl if you want to get fancy) Use it like a dentist on teeth and poke around to find the rust, don't be shy. When you find some, cut it out and weld in some new sheet metal. ;)

I paint cars for a living and what I have found to be the best is Rust Seal by SEM. Strip off as much paint and rust and crap in the areas you are tryin to fix, brush or roll on the Rust Seal, let it sit for 12 hours, then you can apply bondo or primer/paint directly over it. In agreeance with EGK, Por15 is a great product, but only if you are not going to paint over it. Once it's dry you need to sand it so that the bondo or paint will stick. Rust Seal is available at most automotive paint suppliers.

I did not receive one notification from the forum :( what a shame. I did not know you guys had posted, thank you so much. I ended up using the Eastwood chassis kit. It consists of several products like: Rust Converter, Rust Encapsulator, and some other paint. It has been great so far, I just hope it will last. I also used Heavy duty rust something for the areas I could not reach.

there is a generic rust desolver? preventer called navel jelly.I think thats what you might be talking about, but alarmedbread is right the only real way to get rid of rust forever is to cut it out, depending on how bad it is of course. If the rust is just on the surface you can take a da sander to it,then seal it asap

POR15 can be painted over, but it has to be timed properly - have to wait until it is just getting tacky blah blah blah - they have instructions on their website. I really love the stuff, but in it's place. If you have some heavy gauge metal with heavy surface rust, knock the loose stuff off and put the POR15 on - applied as instructed, it won't come off for years and the rust will not come back.

The real solution is, as stated above, to cut and replace, then make sure you seal it well.

The car I parted out had had the passenger rear quarterpanel replaced, looked great except the seams, which were rusting. They didn't seal it properly.
