I just got her, but the aftermarket GOLD paint is fucking hedeous... So seeing as how I've been reading every piece of info on the Roller Paint jobs that I could find over the past 6 months or so, I'm ready to give it a try.
The good thing about the car is that the previous paint job was prepped pretty well. There is literally ONE dent on the whole body, just one. Everything else just needs to be block sanded to get rid of any little ripples or waves. The sucky thing is the amount if disassembly I'll have to do... E24s have the most trim I've ever seen on any car, it's outrageous! Not to mention removing the doors, hood, trunk, bumpers, fenders, and probably removing the engine so I can do the engine compartment. (And obviously using the opportunity to clean and replace a bunch of engine parts)
I'll be practicing first on a spare fender and trunk lid I've got, just to make sure I can get the paint to polish up and shine nicely. But I have a couple questions:
1) Once I'm done with my 6 to 8 coats, and done with the wet sanding, what products would you guys recommend for compounding, polishing, and waxing? What should I use to apply them as well? What types of pads, etc for an orbital polisher / buffer?
2) Should I go black? Black 6ers are hot as hell, and like I said, my body is about a 9.5/10 already. I've never seen a white 6 that I liked a whole lot, but I guess I'd consider it... Maybe I should buy a few cans of different colors and experiment?
Thanks guys, and once I get started I'll hopefully contribute to the growing knowledge base concerning roll on paint jobs.
