Soda Blasting?

Anyone here have any exp. with soda blasting their vehicle before a repaint? I'm thinking of getting a set up to test out the idea when I pull the engine to start on my s52 swap. I will be doing a respray and want to start with the engine bay and see how it goes. If anyone wants to chime in, let's hear it. So far I found one setup for $249.00.

Wow, I have not. I have only seen sand, glass, and plastic media.

Soda blasting works very well on paint and is gentle on the sheet metal. Clean up isnt bad either.

However, it won't remove undercoating, but most blasting agents have difficulty with that stuff anyway.

the paint shop i'm bring my car to wants to sell me in on doing this or bead blasting...

i have all the windows, trim, everything removed, is this something i should actually consider?

I've looked into both media and soda blasting and everything I have heard is to stay away from soda. It is very difficult to get all of it cleaned out of everywhere and you will pretty much always have it show up later through the paint. I suggest going with sand or another media.

I did soda on an ITS/EP 240z, nice stuff but I'm sure 10 years later that shit is still coming out of the rockers and every other nook and cranny. You will never get it all cleaned out but it does not warp panels link other media. Look around, many company's offer several options for somewhat reasonable rates, nut shells come to mind..

I don't see buying a kit, check on farming it out, might surprise you..

I've only used soda on wheels/intakes/other aluminum since it's a bit more gentle and doesn't pit.

If the place you use is worth a damn, then you should have no worries of warped panels with other types of media.

As for cleanup, if you're acid dipping your chassis anyway you won't need to worry :-D
