    sap removal???

I've never had sap get on a car before - and now, I've getting the picture that you need to remove ASAP. I didn't and now it very hard.

What have you guys used in the past that works well?

I did some searching on the internet, but I wanted to hear from someone who had to do this first hand.

    Thanks!

Rubbing alcohol (highest percentage you can find 90% will do) mixed with water 50/50 for 90% slightly less for lower percentages. After washing the car you can spray on and let dwell. Should soften it up and make it come off...you can always try clay as well.

I think this one works best

I use mineral spirits. Shit works like a charm.

I tried alcohol the drug store kind, and it seem to mar the paint, mineral spirts do nothing. I was brave enough to try castrol "Super Clean" - and it seems to work, I'm just worried about long term effects.

Did you mix the alcohol with water?

              alcohol? I think not

seriously... are you considering using rubbing alcohol on your car? sounds like its going to rip the paint off like paint thinner.

I actually have realtime experience myself on my e38. If you own a good orbital buffer, take some paint cleaner from einzette or mequire and go to town with that, if its stuck for a long time use some polish. I wish I had taken some picture. you can take those things off easy, but dont even bother if you dont have a good orbital polisher, get someone who does and help you out.

long term effects? you fucked up your paint... short term? it'll dull out like crazy. and you would need to get someone to polish it anyways after your done with your crazy endeavor.

The guy that said to use alcohol is a pro detailer, does the work on Lambos and Euro show cars and such, I doubt that he would give bad advice

                    Nope - I didn't - I'll try that.

About the "long term effects" - I HAVE to try something, or the LONG TERM EFFECTS are a sap covered car!

Super Clean is nasty stuff, we all know that, but it seems to strip some oils out of the paint for a second, then following with a coat of solid wax puts them back.

                    The car is zinno BTW...

You can get some goof off from the home stores(lowes, home depot) and use it to wipe the effected area. If it is real thick you might have to carefully use a single edge razor blade and shave it down close to the paint surface, so you are not rubbing all day long and scratching the hell out of your paint, then wipe it with the goof off... When I worked at the local BMW dealer we used a product called ACUSOL. The sap will not hurt the paint as long as you find it and remove it quickly but once it has had time to sit and bake in the sun some(several hours) it can start to etch the pain(similar to bird shit) and then a more drastic measure will have to be taken to get the etching out of the paint(wet sand and buff area effected) Take a look at page 15 on the BMW paintwork assessment that I posted here http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=92311

Whatever you do don't use a single edge razor blade on a painted surface! They do make a plastic razor blade that could be used to remove large globs of sap. The simple green in a diluted form will help clean it off. After you use a strong cleaner like simple green on an automotive finish use clay bar, like the kind they sell at www.griotsgarage.com or Mothers or Meguires to clean the surface completely and get a couple coats of wax to seal the surface. Then never park under the "sappy" tree again.
