ok, i have been told to go down to bare metal, from there i am lost. i have been told so many different things, I need help getting it right so i dont have to do it again. i will need to use bodyfill on most spots as they are pitted. so what do i do befor body fill and after the bodyfill? thanks guys!

Check out their website, try their starter kit. Basically you strip the bare metal, clean and prepare it, then paint with POR-15. Then you want to prime and paint over that.
My sig shows my cancer spots where I used it. -
If you want to do it right, DO NOT fill the holes with body filler. They need to be welded or the area that is rusted needs to be cut out and replaced with good metal. Filler is not made to fill holes.
