    Painting booth

Anyone used them. I need paint bad and also some bodywork(will post pics!) Don't really want super show quality. Oh and how much paint would be needed for the whole car, I have a bit of a connection on paint(I hope). Has anyone done a full job from scratch using a paint booth?

I have used a paint booth... both a shitty crossflow and a downdraft bake booth. Usually you are talking some $$ to rent one to paint a car in, if they even let you into their shop with out the hookup.

I used about 2-3 quarts to paint my car and my body parts. I just bought a gallon so I had extra. You are probably going to want to do 3 good coats of clear (I would just buy a gallon).

The painting part is only 1/8th of the process. You need to dissassemble the car, remove mouldings, windows etc etc. Then you need to do all the body and prep work, priming, blocking and then if everything is perfect, seal, paint and clear.. Then you colorsand and buff for a super slick finish and reassemble and detail for weeks getting your car perfectly clean from compound and dried sanded clear...

I am sure there is an autobody forum somewhere on the web that can give you tips, or maybe you have a friend that could give you a hand. It sounds alot easier than it is, thats why it is so expensive to get cars painted (correctly).

...Umm I dunno if I can do all that. I just wanted a coat on it ause the one it has right now is shite. It's balding and looks horrible. Maybe I can do alot of the prep then maaco can shoot and then I can do the finishing work(color sanding, detailingand all that. Does that sound like it could work?

It sounds to me like you've never done any type of body work. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but let me tell you, you are in for way more than you thought. It is very, very time consuming. And if you don't know what you're doing, it'll end up not looking good. The first body work I did on my car had to be redone because I didn't know what I was doing. I've got a gu that is very experienced doing the work on my car, and it's in my garage. I've been able to watch him and pick up a lot of good methods. I can now do decent body work, and if you prime it and lightly sand, you can tell if it's perfect. I am doing all of the blocking on the car, and that alone makes me never want to do this again. Sanding is definetly no fun at all.

So if you are ambitious, then go for it.
