Separating bumpers from trim.

Im trying to separate the bumpers from the black trim on an 89 E30, for paint. Don't want to break the trim, how do I take them apart? For front and rear, Ive got the euro trip if that makes a diffrence

There are plastic clips on the trim that snap in place. The best way I've found is too use a 1" wide putty knife. Slide it in between the bumper and the trim and pry gently away from the trim to pop it out. Try and get it in where the clip is. It can be hard not to break them.
