    Door lock problem

    same as e30tech.

okay so my drivers door lock is messed up. i dont know how to describe it really. if i try and lock the car and try and turn the lock back to be straight up my key gets stuck at a angle like / that. and normally i have to play with it for like 5 minutes to get it to come lose. i can unlock it fine. but locking it, it messes up. if i lock it from the truck or the other door it works fine. has anyone changed the locks before or has had this problem and fixed it? maybe a diagram of the way the lock works? i dont know, anything will help.

I've had the same problem. Passenger works and so does the trunk. Its not my key either. I've looked around and didn't find an answer. Unless someone who knows the answer posts it here, I'll end up using my trunk for the rest of the E30's life. LAME.

Sounds to me like the lock cylinder is to blame.. Like the tumblers inside are sticking.

I had the same problem and it is an easy fix. Look at the position of your interior door handle. Most of these problems are caused by partial through of the handle. My handle had been kind of loose and acting funny inside of the car. It turns out that unless the handle sits totally flat it partially engages the mechanism causing the the stickyness at the lock and the failure to lock. One easy way to tell if this is your problem is to get in the car , close the door and try to lock the door from the drivers pin. If it will not lock or takes a crazy amount of effort than that is likely your problem.
