    Trunk lid swap?

I have a '91 318 convertible, and I want to get rid of the butt-ugly third brake light.

I found a 4-door trunk lid in the right color, but I don't know if it's the same size as the convertible lid.

Does anyone have any first-hand experience with this swap? Measurements from a four-door lid would work also.

Not first hand - but I've heard of this exact thing being done. All trunks should be identical - except of course for the M3

The deck lid from either a e30 coupe or sedan will swap just fine onto a convertible. I've done the swap myself and it's very straightforward.

The only problem I need to fix on mine is that the right side of the deck lid sits a little bit lower than the left. It can be adjusted and shimmed until it's level but I'll save that for another day. I also think the trunk lift shock on the convertible is known to play a factor in the misalignment of the deck lid. I know other people have posted before about that.

I'd recommend though that before you remove your convertible's deck lid that you take note of the placement of the mounting bolts. Also keep track of any shims that may have been used. This will make it easier to get the new deck lid aligned and positioned right.

After seeing your post, I'm definitely going to do the swap!

Also any big difference other than the loss of the 3rd brake light? What did you do with the wiring?
