    M3 Evo outside mirrors...

    Hey Bimmerheads,

I'm new here. No, I don't have an e30 at the moment... its an e21. Enough parts are common or easily adapted to the e21 though - which brings me to my question: Anyone know if the M3 Evo outside mirrors are available through BMW? Or another source? OEM or replica?

    Thanks, and kind regards,

I have seen the replicas in person, and can attest to their cheapness. They also look nothing like the DTM mirrors.

Which mirror exactly are you speaking of "bimmerevsalot"?

Blair , like previously mentioned you must be thinking of the DTM style mirrors as the Evo's had the same regular e30 mirrors .

Also although you mentioned some parts may be interchangeable ...the mirrors will need modifing to work on your E21 .
The E28 5-series shares the same exact mirrors as the later 80+ E21 so any aftermarket mirror that is made for the E28 would be a direct bolt-on for your E21 .

But I'll steer in you in the right direction if indeed you are after the DTM style , the replicas that are linked above in the GB are nothing more than a guy buying another product and marking them up and selling them here for inflated prices .
I don't want to crap on that supporting vendors (ha!) FS thread but all of us that have been around for a while know that electrodyne.com has been selling those same EXACT mirrors for years and for MUCH less .
Those DTM replicas are basically a cheap product that is made in a universal style to fit many makes and just the backing plate changes to suit different cars .
The backing plate to mirror is where there are unsightly gaps that most would not want on their street car .
But if you buy those replicas you can easily make your own backing plates or modify them from an old E21/E28 set and you are good to go .

Hope this helps ......and helps others that may be looking to pick up the DTM replicas for a better price without inflated shipping costs .

evo - er... DTM outside mirrors!

Hey, thanks everyone for the info. Yep - its the DTM style mirror that I'm looking for. I thought these were used on Evo or Evo 2 or some sort of road going special. Anyway, I want them purely for the style... I'll have a look at the Electrodyne site - thanks for that suggestion.

FWIW, I checked my mirrors and those on my good pal Eric Jones's '85 323i - and they do have the same part number on the outside of the glass housing itself. They look identical in every other respect - but maybe the mounting holes are different. I'll pull one of his and find out for sure.

I have looked at the Vitaloni Sebring mirror. They are a flush mount, teardrop style that look alot like the DTM. Could be this is what the sponsor is selling... Anyway, based on info from the distributor here [who was nice enough to send me dimensioned drawings...] I think I can make them work, with a base plate of my own making to get the mirror to clear the aluminum door & window frame trim.

This isn't a high priority, but something I've been thinking about for a while.

            Anyway, really appreciate the tips.

            All the best,
