got done painting the ground effects for my 86 e30

Well I finally had time to do some ground effects work.

Those that have seen the car in person know that it is a very clean car that I daily drive. Now I think it looks even a bit sportier.

I added Mtech II ground effects front and rear and e36 318i side skirts.

    After:

Still have the shadowline and door strip blackout to do....

Cost. These cost me $40. Mtech II side skirts to look right need the side panels and that would cost $$. Also, being that it is my daily driver up here in the rust belt, I did not want to put on the side panels. There would be more of a tendency for them to rust beneath the panels. With the e36 side skirts I can still get under the back side to wash out the crud and salt that will creep underneath.

          Thanks,

If you look in my sig you can see the PO put on the plastic bumpers however, he did not "tuck" them because he did not want to have to mod the leading edge near the wheel flairs. It bugged me to no end, so I figured since I had to do body work to them anyway, why not go all out...

Can you take a side shot of the car mainly focused on how the rear looks since its semi flush with the end of the bumper.

Were the sideskirts bolt on or did you have to do some cutting/modding?

Basically I did the mod that Jordan did in his tech article

However, what I did (and don't know what he did) I used the factory mounting clips for the side skirts. I had to make metal L brackets and weld them to the rocker area of the car, otherwise the clips would cause the rockers to hold properly. (I did not even think of using double sided tape, probably could have gotten away with it.)

Then I made L and z brackets for the lower part of the rockers to keep them vertical and strongly braced. Because the E36 rocker shape is different there is a gap between the side skirt and the rocker, but that is ok for me, this way I can get between the two and clean and hose them out so that the salt in the winter doesn't get trapped.

Ground effects? I haven't heard that term since the mid-90's. :D

Well, I am a bit older than most here and it also fits the terminology for our age cars. ;)
