I have a M-tech 1 spoiler that is very faded on the top section. Just the foam/rubber part. I would like to paint this section black again. Since it is rather flexible what would be the best way to repaint it? Some sort of rubberized coating? I have to grab it to pull the trunk lid down so it would have to be able to withstand constant movement without cracking. I have herd of a conditioning treatment help keep it dark but i would rather just paint it and leave it if possible. Did a little searching but nothing about painting the actual black part. Any advice or links to helpful threads would be greatly appreciated!

well my car has a shock that holds up the trunk lid so unless i reach over the wing and press down on the center of the lid or something like that i cant really do it any other way. I could look into that though. So if i use the basecoat it will make the paint more flexible? Did you do this to yours?Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.Comment

There is a flex additive that paint/body shops use mixed into the base/paint/clear to make the finish pliable so it will not flake and/or chip. A reputable shop could easily do it and make it the same black oem color or body color fairly easily.Comment

lmao, dude, this kid lives across the street from Mayhem. neither would take the time or spend the money to "do it right" much less do what you listed above.
and instead of grabbing the wing, or reaching over it to press down, i used to grab the bronze latch and pull it down until i could push on the trunk.Comment

Well hell I at least tried to give the correct advice. Whether they choose to take the right way or the Mayhem way is totally up to them. I for one am not holding a gun to them making them make the wrong decision but maybe someone needs to just pull the trigger and get it over with for all of us then. LOLComment

:p quite the contrary Jeff, i am in fact just fiberglassing in my last stud on the colored insert right now. i sent you a pic about a week ago of my first one but i dont think you got it. I spend alot more time on what i do to my car than mayhem. What sort of prepping should i do on the foam part? Sanding doesn't seem appropriate so some kind of primer first or just shoot it?lmao, dude, this kid lives across the street from Mayhem. neither would take the time or spend the money to "do it right" much less do what you listed above.

fixed, sorry a little birdie (actually a rather chunky one) tells me ALOT.:p quite the contrary Jeff, my dad is in fact just fiber glassing in the last stud on the colored insert right now. i sent you a pic about a week ago of my first one but i dont think you got it. my dad spends alot more time on my car than me and mayhem. you dont sand rubber, unless youre trying to reshape it. i painted mine with SEM trim paint, it wasnt bad but i would never do that again. go to industrial finishes in portland and pick up some of the spray on flex primer and then paint it. or do it the RIGHT way as Atomic listed above (not the 12 gauge part, although that would be HILARIOUS).Comment
