plastic bumpers w/87 is front valence

has anybody done a plastic bumper swap and kept the big 87 IS valence? I know it doesn't mount the same but i figured someone might have tried.

Just a pic I found many years ago. Thought it would give you an idea of what it would look like. You dont like the facelift valence or you just want to try something new?

I love the 87 valence but hate diving boards. I feel that a standard bumper swap would make it just another late model e30. that person tucked in the sides of valence making it not fit correctly. I think i might try it myself. thanks.

That guy in the link did it the other way.
He slapped that onto a late model car. And did a piss poor job of it.

here are some pictures of when I was planning to do it on my 1986. I'm sorry I don't have any pictures of the side since i never got it trimmed down to fit because i r3ved my car before finishing the project

If you ask me, I thought it looked very promising and I'm really bummed that I haven't had the chance to finish it. Comparing this setup, I'd say that it's just as low as a late model valence with an "iS" lip fitted.

and thanks e30_wagen for the pics. thats just what i want to do but the sides look like they have problems with that little 1/4 space.

That looks really good e30wagen. Best one I have seen so far. Were you planning to trim the length (front to rear of the car wise) of the 87 airdam. IMHO the 87is airdam is too long and comes too close to the front edge of the plastic bumper and I think this is why it usually looks goofy when most people do it. Like those weird e36 conversion bumpers for the e30. In your pics it looks like you set the airdam back a bit and it looks really good.

For those trying to do this I would almost use the e30M3 dimensions for trimming down the sides. Since the e30 m3 front(non-evo) airdam is similar to the 87is just shorter.
