Prepping engine bay for color change

What did you guys remove? I want to disconnect the ABS and the fuse box, but I don't know how hard it is to bleed the ABS and the wires coming out of the fuse box go everywhere. Any advise? And what about the brake booster and the stuff on the firewall?

This is where I am at now: the AC will be removed after I find someone to drain the r12, and all of the bolt on stuff (carbon canister, fuel filter, subframe, etc.) will just hang down and get taped off..

for mine I removed everything that I could.
I really wish I could remove the fuse box to get better paint and body work done back in that corner.
dont mind the seam sealer because I removed it again after that photo.
The whole bay is being shaved and then painted..
    hope this helps..

How bad was it taking off the booster? That's what I was planning on doing with the fuse box, I just wish there was a way to disconnect it easily. Do you plan on putting the sound deadening back on the firewall?

I have all new sound deadening to install. the booster was 1 pin, 2 brake lines, 4 bolts and 15 minutes.
the primer is a self etching primer because I went all the way to bare metal.

then body work will take place and be sprayed with a primer sealer then color..

Here is mine so far (as of this afternoon)

I removed everything possible as the M50 going in is going to be a very minimalistic swap...

Here is the front view, the body harness is just strung there to keep it off the floor (I have a little repair to do there...)

Here is the drivers side. All that is left is one hard line (passenger side brakes) and the wiring.

Here is the passenger side. All that is left is that power distribution box thing.

Here is the fuse box. If you completely disconnect the body harness from everything and unscrew that bolt that connects the fuse box to the firewall, you can flop it forward a good bit. I plan on doing that to get at least a ghetto coat of paint behind it.

All I have left is to drop the sub frame/steering rack/front suspension. 1995 M3 rack going back in. The sub frame is going to be painted out of the car. This is about as much as I could take off, I want to go with satin/matte black but I'm having trouble finding paint now lol.

Hope that helped a bit, this is my first time trying this.

This is exactly what I'll be starting this weekend. Engine and AC is out so far. I'll be doing a color change also, and maybe some minor shaving.

I'll post pics as we go through it all.

The more you can remove the better it will look.

So how fun is taking a brillo pad to every nook and cranny of the bay? Can't wait...

Anyone have anymore insight on dealing with the fuse box?

fuck that shit it took me two weeks of death labor and prep to clean the engine bay....but the results are amazing. I even thought it so clean and nice i bought the best 3m electrical tape i could find and re wrapped all the factory harnesses the way the factory did them. O so fresh, O so clean.

use foil to wrap things. its easier than seran wrap and tape

use gloves when using chemicals (obviously)

if you are thinking of shaving brackets, stop contemplating and just do it. You will be much happier with yourself, and you won't go limp when you masturbate cause you left that ugly as shit bracket stuck there.
