Paint damage, any way to fix?

The PO said that the ski rack scrapped up the top and the trunk and I was wondering if there was any way to repair it, short of repainting it all?

yeah what they said, the clear is gone. It sucks casue you have to paint the trunk, the roof, and both rear fenders. Might as well paint the car at this point.

It depends on how perfect it needs to be vs your budget vs how much the car is worth. If I had that problem and I didn't want to spend $$$ on a paint job, I'd do this:

            1. Mask everything else off.
            2. Sand off the rest of the clear coat #300 (wet).
            3. Smooth out the remaining base coat with #600 (wet) and #1500 (wet).
            4. Wash all sanding dust off of the area and clean with paint thinner.
            5. Hit the area with 3 or 4 heavy layers of spray-can clear coat, Duplicolor is OK, at $7/can.
            6. A week later, even out the clear with #1500 (wet).
            7. Work with rubbing compound with a rotary buffer, then swirl remover/rotary buffer, then wax.

I did that to fix some deep scratches, and it looked, well, OK. Not sure if it was worth the work, but it was cheap. Better than before, but not as good as real paint.

Good luck getting that repainted! Bronzit seems to do that all the time. I dont think that was from any ski rack, moreso just neglect.

Hmm, I think I will save money on the paint and try your way funcrew, thanks for the advice. I would rather spend that money on suspension and the engine.
