    Drilling through paint

I'm installing a heckspoiler, but when I drill will it crack the paint surrounding the hole? Is there something I'm supposed to do, like put painters tape over it? Or will the hole be fine?

Also, will any power drill work?

    Painters tape - Yes
Tiny Drill bit to start out with and do not press to hard. Let the bit do the work. If you push it will create a dent fast. Increase bit size slowly and then remove the tape. One other thing that a good deal of people over look is the new holes in the car. Seal the edges of the holes with paint or my favorite RTV so that rust doesnt show up and the paint does not start to chip at the edges of the holes.

Any power drill will work just dont let the weight of the drill rest on the car and make sure the word HAMMER is no where on the drill from there just slow and steady.

    Good luck.

Couldn't have said it better... save for clarifying that you can use a few layers of painters tape.

You can get one of those conicle(sp.) drill bits, the ones that start real small and gradually get bigger. That's what I've used and I haven't had an issue yet.

The only downside to the stepped bit is that it could catch the next step hard and if the paint is not well bonded it could chip pretty bad. Just a thought.
