For those of us with the uneven trunk lids due to the early single strut, model years 1987 & 1988. I have completed my upgrade to the later two strut style and am happy to report it was simple and works fine.
Find someone parting out a later cabrio, or find one at the u pull it. You will need the passenger side trunk hinge and both struts. The strut part # is 51 248 103 118. It will say 150N on the side also.
You will need to remove these three nuts. You will find them when you pop your convertible top lid. Remove the three nuts, close lid and then open trunk. Unscrew the two nuts holding the trunk lid and the hinge pulls right out.
I have already primed and painted my 'new' passenger side hinge and installed it. Photo for comparison:

Once you get the trunk re-aligned and tighten all the screws, you will install the later model struts. There is a convenient tab for mounting the bottom of the strut. I simply drilled and bolted the lower strut to this tab.
