    Modifying Sideskirts

Just want to run my idea by you all.

I am in the process of modifying a set of side skirts i have. All that is involved is pretty much what the Taurus sideskirts require, cutting and capping off.

I plan to use a plastic welder, and to reinforce it on the back side with fiberglass.

This is where i need direction. I've never worked with fiberglass before, nor any type of bondo, which i will need to smooth everything out when i'm done.

Recommendations for fiberglass and bondo? Something that can be bought at a local hardward/parts store?

I'd like to pick these things up on my home from work tonight, so, you have 5 hours to tell me what to buy, or i'll just make my choice when i get to the store.

Thanks for your input. (i will get pics up this evening of what i've done so far)

    Am I to late?

For a filler(bondo), I would say use marson mar glass. Of course you will need some hardener also. Be sure to use a correct, well mixed hardener/filler mixture and spread it on nicely so theres no air bubbles or pin holes. Let it harden (half hour or so) and sand it down. Then add another batch and sand it. Repeat again if needed.

You're going to have to literally shred the surface of the plastic where you're going to put the fiberglass down, or it won't have anything to grab on to. In fact, you probably shouldn't even be using fiberglass, as it doesn't bond to plastic. I would use plastic epoxy.

these are the easiest brands to find. there are others by 3M, lord fusor, wurth, ETC.

fiberglass will not work! the plastic flexes fiberglass wont. it also wont bond well with the plastic.

          Roger that. No fiberglass.

We'll see how good my plastic welding is and i may not need a filler at all.

          Thanks for the input.

No filler would be ideal. :D

Do it! I'm actually modding stock iX skirts/flares into just skirts. We'll see how it looks on the car.

I have a feeling it'll be too bulky without a front lip/rear valance to match.

Ooooo! Can I come? I'd like to meet more people in the area that mess around with e30's. Seems like most of the Badger Bimmers have kind of moved away from the older stuff.
