    Painting Weather

    I want to respray my car, but have a couple questions. I know it's best to have a certain humidity/temp for the paint to properly cure, but what is that temp? Should I paint in my garage in the winter or spring? I was thinking spring, but am unsure. My garage is not heated and insulated either.

      Spraying anything under 60 degrees you will be doing a lot of waiting (between coats that is). Each coat needs to flash off properly. Trapping the solvents in each coat is not good. When it comes to clear coating, good luck not running it if its below 60. People that have done a lot of painting at home or do it professionaly can make it work, but a newb will mess something up. I know because I was a newb once.

              Then your good to go. When your ready to spray and buy your paint and stuff just make sure you get the reducer that is right for the temperature. The reducer is the stuff you add to the paint to make it sprayable, it comes in different temperature ratings. Just ask your local autopaint supplier and they will guide you.

                          BMW Manufacturing keeps their clean rooms at 75 degrees. I don't have any experience with one-off automotive painting, but I'd bet that's a good temp to shoot for.
