    oxidation or paint fade

    i have a 87 325is the roof and trunk have either oxidation or paint fade. i think it's more exidation. what is the easiest way to fix this and make it shine again?

      If your paint is metallic with a clear coat, it's probably the clear coat failing - common on hood, roof, and trunk. If so, you'll need to repaint.

        I agree with John. If it's 2 step, color/clear you need a redo. If it's a one coat paint, you may be able to restore it with a good buffer (porter cable), the correct pad, and elbow grease.

            Go get some wax and wax a little spot really good. If color comes off and onto your rag then you have a single stage paint job and most likely it will come back to life with a good polishing.

            If no color comes off onto your rag then my friend you have failing clear coat which means to fix it right you need to strip the car down to bare metal and have a complete respray. Unless that is its just one panel then you just need that one panel fixed, but if its starting to do it on one its going to do it on all.

              Poorboy's SSR product line will remove oxidation, then hit it with their polish.
