    Cow Catcher Air Dam

I bought an 87is that has a cow catcher air dam and I'm deciding whether I like it or just get rid of it. Can someone explain to me if this was an optional BMW part or an aftermarket part that everyone had to have back in the day?

As far as I'm aware, the cowcatcher was not an option for the base model e30's, and came on every 'IS' or 'ES' from the factory. They're pretty rare for that reason, especially the favorable 'IS' version which had four holes at the bottom instead of the two on the 'ES' version.

If you don't want it, I'll take it haha

What's rare is if you still have the brake ducts and plastic under trays for it. Many of those air dams have been destroyed so if you have one I'd keep and run it. We may have got the awful diving boards in north america but i think the unique air dams for the es/is models kinda make up for it. Getting a rear valence really completes the look on a diving board car, that and getting the shorter bumper shocks from an '88.
