Bumper tuck using late model bumper shocks

I want to tuck the diving boards on my early model without having to drill the shocks. From the research I've done, the late model bumper shocks are a lot shorter than the early model shocks. Are the shocks interchangeable? Or should I just get the OWL engineering bumper brackets? How far back will the diving board go with the late model shocks? The OWL brackets shorten the front by 1" and the rear by 1.5"

You can replace your early model bumper shock with those from the 1986-87 models and get a slight tuck (about 1 1/4”) and still have a functioning shock. I did this on my 84. The only modification I had to make was to drill a hole and weld a nut onto the rear stock extension for the bolt that goes thru the rear frame rail.

Sorry meant to say 87-88. Here is a comparison of early (1984) vs later (87-88) rear shocks.

I used shocks from an 88 convertible. Tucked them in about 1/3 and looks way better!
