    removing super old tint

how do i get this crap off the back window?

I spent a good 3 hours with a razor blade and got about 1/2 done. is there any tricks to pull it off in one piece, not 1 inch sections at a time?

    tint blows:hitler:

I used a heat gun and a razor to remove mine in huge sheets. Work with some ventilation, because tint smells bad when heated up. I started at the corners by lifting an edge with the razor, then peeled it as much as possible.

It probably took around 45 minutes to remove the tint from the rear window. The tint will be weak near the defroster elements, so if you feel excess resistance, focus some heat at that spot.

heat gun might be the trick. there were two layers of tint on all the windows. the top layer came off fine, but the bottom layer has become brittle and just tears at the slightest thing. I've got all the tint off except for the back window, which is a total pita with the defrost elements

I've never taken tint off but I've heard spraying some ammonia helps. I do know that they tell you not to use ammonia based window cleaners to clean the inside of your windows when you have tint.

It does work but with the defroster wires I can't say for sure. The guy that did mine used WD-40 and 0000 and the defrosters worked just fine. That is until I replaced the tint. I think the wires were cut on install because they worked on removal.

In Germany you need the defroster. In Florida, not so much.

Could you just replace the whole window?

use a steamer, it worked wonders for removing tint for me. Then any glue left which shouldnt be much use windex with ammonia

50/50 mix of ammonia and water and a black garbage bag.

In the sun, spray the inside of the window with the ammonia mix. Then stick the plastic bag to the window and let it sit. It will soften up the tint and the glue making it easier to remove.

just remove the window, put it in the bathtub fill of 50/50 mix for a few hours and hot water.

i do recall hearing something that the 0000 steel wool doesnt effect the defrost, but then again take everything off the internet with 40 grains of salt.
