Couple appearence questions and part I.D. help...

So it looks like I am getting an 87 325iS and it has the front air dam and big bumpers which are tucked and black. I can dig this so for now it stays. Maybe eventually small bumpers will happen but not until after a swap.

    So the questions!

-The larger rear spoiler which is a MTech 2 I believe comes from the E28? It has the painted piece in front and then the rubberized 'spoiler' part. Is this in fact an E28 spoiler? Does it attach via the same holes as the standard e30 iS spoiler? Is there an actual e30 version that does use the same holes?

-What rear valence/apron is pictured below? Hard to find I am guessing at this point. Are there any other versions/options?

-87 Model diving board cars are an easy swap to small bumpers correct? Front and rear you lose tow hooks, swap valence and start bolting on?

-What about the rear? Can you cut and weld, sand and attach the lower rear valence? This may be a bit more difficult but probably not impossible.

    Thanks guys!

I believe the 88' is the odd ball that can be easily switched. Not 100% though.

The big spoiler with the grooves comes from the e28, mtech, inner studs go to is holes, outers need trilling or to be cut. The smooth back version of the big spoiler is mtech for e30, rare.

Plastic bumper swap is common, 88 would be easiest though.

The lower rear of a late model needs to be cut and welded on, or attached somehow, it's not a direct swap and bolt on piece.
      Jah bless! :pimp:

        1. The Mtech1 e28 spoiler can be used but all new holes will have to be drilled. It does not line up with the stock es/is spoiler holes. The e30 Mtech1 is a direct bolt on.

        2. That is a Zender rear apron. Sometimes they come up for sale. And sometimes dummies toss them in the trash.

        3. Are you calling the plastic bumpers small? If these are the ones you are talking about then here is the writeup http://www.r3vlimited.com/tech/bumper/bumper1.htm

        4. yes it can be done, and i think that Janderson has a thread on it.

Yup. Small is plastic in how I label them. That is down the road though.

Plastic bumpers are not easily swapped onto pre-88 cars. Well... The fronts, yes. Rears, no. it requires lot of modification. Same wit the rear valence.

Yah I have read Jordan's guide. I understand there is some fab work involved. I will rock the diving boards tucked for a while. I don't dislike them :)

I have an e28 mtech spoiler.

I'll see if I can find a picture of my car that shows it well vs an e30 spoiler.

You can see here the e28 spoiler hangs onto the quarter panel.

And the E30 one does not.

Thanks Danny. I actually like the E28 one :)

Did you mount yours yourself? Tape off, measure and drill? Did you have an OEM spoiler?

I had no spoiler, what I did was put a dot of silcone caulking stuff (I had it laying around), on every stud and had a friend help me line it up and push it down. Then when I lifted the spoiler I drilled through the dots of silicone.

                          Bada bing bada boom.

I used template when mounting a standard iS spoiler on my 89 325i and then comfirmed with that method.

With the iS spoiler mounted I think I can take that off and I think 2 of the holes line up and then use the silicone method and drill and seal and mount!

                            It looks so good!

I believe its the higher rear arches on the pre 88 that makes the plastic bumper hard to put on the rear
