    Trunk Lock

Mods: If this is in the wrong section - I apologize in advance!

    Hey folks,

I've noticed that my trunk lock has become rather difficult to lock and unlock. The best way to describe it is that it is very "stiff" to turn. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem? TIA!

Thanks for the reply, Matt-B. Any particular oil or grease recommended?

Here's something to throw things off:
When it was snowing for the several days in Vancouver (Canada) last month, the lock would be ice cold/frozen and/or covered with snow. At that point in time, I could literally slide the key into the lock and lock/unlock with ease.

      Now, I can't. :(

I used wheel bearing grease cause that what i had and same issue happened to me... when it was cold it will work cause lock is frozen and Ill ry to explain why...

guy at dealer (who sold me a new lock :() said the are like "teeth" that catch when key is turned and when lock wears out they dont grab cause there worn...but when it gets cold and icey moisture gets in there and "sticks" things together and can make it open...

i ordered a new OEM 1 and it came with 2 keys...hope that helps

ps I lived in Vancouver (washington) :)

          Thanks again!

Was the wheel bearing grease a temporary solution or did the problem just come back time and time again until you finally gave in and purchased a new lock?

              Ouch!

Would you happen to have a part number and a general idea of how much this will run me?

mine was 110$ for NON central locking

central locking ones are 60-85$ i think

                51 24 1 904 514 NON central locking

                51 24 1 911 948
                For vehicles with:
                Central locking system = Yes

                  n00bie question:

When I turn the trunk lock, it also unlocks the other locks on all 4 doors - is this central locking or no?

yes it is, its best to unlock your car from trunk cause it saves all the wear and tea on driver lock...some of which dont work

Gotcha! My driver side lock cylinder is due for a rebuild so I think it's time to do that and to replace that trunk lock. Very helpful post! Thanks Matt-B! :)
