I was wondering the same thing and came across this article;
http://www.gadgetjq.com/windshield_scratch_removal.htm
I have not tried it yet though.
Disregard this post... I just now realized it's for a mc poly windshield, not glass........May work on reviving your tail lights though.Last edited by pfahls1; 10-12-2010, 10:53 AM.1986 BMW 325es

If the scratches are light and not deep enough to feel with your fingernail then cerium oxide and a buffer will remove them.
You can buy cerium oxide at local jeweler/lapidary supply stores. Or buy online at www.hisglassworks.com. Mix with water to the consistency of rubbing compound and then go to work with a buffer, spritzing with water ever so often to keep it wet.
Also eastwood sells a kit that you can use with a drill, goes for about $47 + shipping
Glass polishing takes along time and could take a few hours to do a windshield, depending on how deep the scratches are. So it may be money & time better spent just having the windshield replaced since you can get one installed for around $150.Last edited by td325ic; 10-12-2010, 02:28 PM.

i think NY is one of those states where insurance will replace your windshield for free. call them to verify then throw a brick at it to make sure its broken. I bought a e46 once that had a scratch that followed the motion of the wiper blade. Called (Florida) & verified. Guy told me on the phone if it was cracked they could repair it, but they wouldn't do scratches for free. I then changed my tone and "explained" how a rock hit me on the highway and its severely cracked. Got a new windshield while AT work. This company came out here to do it. My .02. Call your insurance, they may waive the deductible. Does not raise your rates either. They CAN NOT do it if its not related to a collision.No more e30s for me.
