    Cutting out an E30 floor.

After stripping my car down a month ago, i've noticed that the floor has been rusting and is in bad shape (Before i bought the car it was sitting outdoors for 3 years).

Anyway, there is a guy locally who has a totalled E30 rustfree. The Floor of the car is absolutely MINT.

I was thinking of cutting out the rust on my car and just welding in galvanized sheet metal, etc.

However now that i can get a mint floor i'd like to know on how to proceed with this install.

Is there a how to on where to cut, how to cut, etc? I don't want to start cutting any parts of the car and put my safety on the line.

If you don't know, you should probably pay a shop to do it. That being said, if you remove everything out of their way before taking the car(s) to them it'd be a lot less expensive.

Otherwise, measure a multitude of times and cut once...Cut your patch panels larger than you need so you'll have extra to work with. Cut out all of the rusty areas and "square up" your shape/edges. Then cut the patch panel to fit the new hole you created. You want the edges to be butt-to-butt for good weld penetration. Tack the panel in, make sure it's straight/right, then weld the rest up a random inch at a time. Random meaning weld an inch, move to the opposite side of the panel and weld another inch, etc. You'll expand/warp the repair if you do a continuous weld around the panel. I hope that helps...
