I'm going to be getting rid of my nasty, yellowed, corroded lockstrips on my 86 325eS and replacing with nice black ones from a 318iS, to go along with the shadowline I'll be installing soon. Now I've pulled the lockstrips from E30 front and rear windshields before, which was no daunting task, but putting them back in seems like it will be quite the opposite. They appear to fit in quite snug, more so than it would seem to just be able to stick new ones in. My question is, is there a special tool for this, or would I just be better off taking it to a glass shop, and having them replace them for me? I've called a few places, and most have told me that they would not charge much do do it, but can't give me a price until they see the parts themselves. They've all said it wouldn't be more than $20-30. What do you guys reccomend? I don't want to fuck up the finish, or anything else by not knowing what I'm doing, so can you guys help me out?

I'm getting ready to do this too. Just ordered a used set, so I just have to wait for it to get here and pick up some new lock clips. Guess I gotta get that tool too, everyone says it's a royal PITA job without it.-Brandon

There is the method of keeping them very lubricated when you try and pry them back on.
The second method didn't work for me, and was not easy at all.
Buy the tool, rent it out later.or go to bavauto themselves, order a bunch of parts, forget to grab the tool, and then need it later that night. tool :)

if your going to replace your lockstrip but am too cheap to buy the special tool like me, then make the "special" tool out of a hanger. It does the same thing as the special tool and took me about 10 min to replace my lock strip. I put in a new rubber gasket as well so it might have been a little harder.
