    Pre 88 side moulding questions

I have an opportunity to pick up a healthy set of side mouldings from an 86e. Only issue is my car is a 1990. I was wondering if anyone knows if pre facelift side mouldings work with 88+ cars?
realoem suggest that the front fender one is incompatible but did bmw change the design of their side panels during the years?

i think the only difference is that on late models they no longer have the chrome strip in the middle and are all black.

The rear 1/4 panel piece will NOT fit.

is this because bmw modify the rear quarter panel in order to compliment the lowered rear valence of later models?

Partially. The rear arches of cars 88+ are lower, so the rear quarter panel side trim pieces are slightly longer on those cars, shorter on the 84-87 cars.

a little off topic but what about the lock strip around the windshield? does the chrome one make any difference on a late model windshield?

actually. now to think about it. I noticed that some member's pre 88 cars have straight black mouldings. how do they accomplish that? do they trim the black ones are paint over the chrome strip?
