DIY: Euro Plate Filler Install

Euro Plate filler install

Take off your plate



Remove the white things and screws





Align the plate filler how you want it, and come from the backside (in the trunk) and mark where you'll need to drill



Marks:



Holes drilled



While it's out, file down the section where the trunk lid opener handle cylinder thing is, so it will clear it



Throw away the old screws, and get some nuts and bolts



Put some foam/towels behind the filler so there aren't any rattles ;)



Align the plate filler and put on the bottom 2 bolts (my plate frame only has 2 holes)



Put on the plate...and it's done!

I would recommend an expanding rivet and screw with a bit of silicon instead of your method. A bit more weatherproof. ;)

Double sided foam tape also does wonders for mounting and raddle proofing as well.

BTW, did you restore your license plate? I wanna do that to mine...
how did you do that? Mine's discolored and cracking all over.

Don't use rags - a couple dabs of silicone, or a few squares of sound deadening. Outdoor double sided tape could work too.

Although the paint is "waterproof" to some degree, I bet it would eventually loose that fight and rust(It's not ship hull paint) - you won't know about it till you've got water in your trunk.

I usually wouldn't use rags, but that's the only thing I had around.

Yep..I sanded down the old paint. Painted it with some white krylon. Went over the letters with black indiana ink using a thin paint brush. Clear coated it. Put the sticker on..Done!

It's illegal though ;)

my trunk lid seems to make contact with the plate filler when closing it. i filed the section for the cylinder to go through, but im still getting a little contact. its no big deal as the trunk still closes, im just concerned that ill crack the plate filler. does anyone else have this happening? would it be worth filing more sections down on the backside to get it to fit a bit more flush under the lid? sorry to rehash an old thread, but id appreciate the advice.

How I did mine:



I drilled holes into the plate filler in order to keep the original license plate moutning holes.



This is how I decided to solve water getting into my trunk.





All mounted with double stick tape.

Yep I took those white clips out....but filled them in w silicone...def recommend doing that plus around the back side of the screws like pictured above.

Btw the two bottom holes I didn't put screws in...just filled the holes w silicone.

There are two different screw holders. Most us cars come with the thicker ones. If you use the thinner ones or grind the stock ones to 1/3 of original size the filler will sit flush.
