buy them from abrahamsmotorsport.com... they have ones that have a smoked amber and you can remove the insert and have them as a clear smoked.

I've done it with the spray tint. I used the vht stuff from the parts store. Its not perfect but it came out ok. I would recommend buying them or trying the RC hobby stuff.
I don't always wreck cars, but when I do I wreck them into trees.

I did my stock front turn signals and sidemarkers on my DB e30 with black plastidip. Two light coats and the light shows shows through even in daylight. The great thing is that it matches the black trim perfectly (if you want that look). If you don't like the way it turned out, peel it off.

just paint the side markers satin flat black. no need for them...for the front turns, go to a RC/hobby store and get the "window tint" plastic paint. do a couple of light coats. I've ended up spraying coats, removing it, spraying coats, removing, etc so that it would leave a little behind evenly and not be straight up black. don't sand or anything, just clean with windex or something.

my front end for example (lip is temporary)

          black sides, semi smoked turns.
