Removing Rear Bumper Shocks from an 89+

Hi..was at a junkyard today trying to scrounge an 89+ rear plastic bumper. Got the rear bumper itself off using my 10mm hex tool, but then was not able to remove the bumper shocks (or the things that the plastic bumper hangs on). The stick out and vertical. I tried turning them and thy turned but did not come out. The two bolts on each are round and don't seem to have any way I can get them out... Please help... I need to upgrade my diving board bumpers on my 86....

PS - a friend gave me some 88 (shorter) bumper shocks and an 88 bumper--but I now want to go right to plastics--I can't use these 88 short bumper shocks for the 89 rear plastic bumper, right?

So nobody knows ? Nobody has had their rear bumper off or had to remove the mounts?

I found out for sure that I can't use the 88 shock mounts - I need the 89 shock mounts. They are bolted in using 2 bolts it's just wierd how on this car those two bolts on each mount had screw heads that were totally round, so not sure how to take them off.

Is this the right forum or should I post in General technical? Thks.

Look on the other side of the sheel metal from the shock, there are 2 bolts on each that go threw the body, from the inside.

they are ussualy press fitted in the mount. you will have to use a vise-grip and pray they hold them, or get a welder and tack weld them in place,

Look up underneath by the muffler cutout for the driver's side one, and inside the trunk by the battery for the passenger side one. Two nuts each, total of like 2 minutes.

Well I may be back at that picnpull next week -I can solve putting them on my car later, but I still need to get them off.. I am still a little unclear- are the heads of the bolts on the inside of the car (inside the trunk) going outside, or on the outside going in? And those things on the outside that look like round head bolts-- am I to try to pull them off with vice grips (man that probably won't work- they looked on their really tight..)

Sounded to me like the Passenger side shock has its nuts inside the trunk near the battery tray and the Drivers side shock has its bolts outside in the muffler cutout.

Yep - I'll give that a go (looks like me and the other guy posted at almost the same time). Assuming the car is still there in the picknpull...
