    more m-tech 1 questions:)

Since we seem to be on the m-tech subject, here is my question....I did a search and seem to come up with two answers to my question; Yes, NO....

    I have a 1988 e30 and a m-tech 1 kit. I am being told it will not fit, but I have seen an 88 m-tech on the forums...well more like a you-tube video.
I need to know why it will not fit....if this is true, and is there a way of working around the problems. If there is a detailed link to the answer, that would be great.
    thanks,

the distance is shorter on the earlier cars. if you try to put the front and rear spoilers on, it will not reach to where the wheel wells are.
that includes the metal euro bumpers that you would need to get to make this kit look right.
that's why early models that convert to later plastic bumpers have to cut up the bumpers and shorten them to make them fit...as you can imagine, doing the reverse would be monumentally difficult.

the sides skirts may fit, but i don't know the right answer for this, so maybe someone else can give their input.

in all seriousness, please sell it to me, unless you plan on buying an early model just to fit the kit. i've been looking for these pieces for a long time.

    -edit-
btw, to be clearer, the front would fit with a european bumper (i think)
    but the rear would not.

M-tech 1 on your late model '88 is do-able if you don't mind modifying the metal rear apron on your car.

Read this thread, it'll give you a good idea of what needs to be done.

If you do decide to tackle this, then I'd try and source the longer convertible rear euro bumper end caps. I believe the guy in the linked thread may have had to do more work than he needed to because he was using the shorter coupe end caps.

                  early 88 and rear m-tech 1

So, I found out my car is an early 88, built in 12-87. I am thinking the m-tech 1 rear valance will fit. Is this true????
                  thanks,

Do you have early model or late model tail lights? Thats all that matters. But as discussed if you get the vert rear kit then your fine.

thanks for the pictures and info.

I don't know about the lights. I just know the build date. I bought the car and it is being shipped. When it gets here I can post some pictures.
Is the rear bumper and valance what I need from the vert, or just the bumper?
                      thanks,

With a build date of DEC 87 there's not a doubt in my mind that you have a late model with large tail lights. So the modifications to mount the m-tech I rear apron will be necessary.

The only thing you want to get from a vert is the rubber end caps that go on the tips of the bumper. That is the only difference between the two. The bumper and apron are the same regardless of coupe or vert. You will need to get the m-tech specific bumper molding if you want the molding to fit correct. Otherwise you may have some issues getting the standard rear euro bumper molding to work with the m-tech apron.

What car r u trying to fit this on? I may have a lead on an m-tech kit locally and want to know if it'll work on mine - 89 325ix. Going to go inspect it this weekend.

I am buying a 88ix. Let me know. I just need the rear part and maybe the rear bumper. I have the rest of the parts. Might not use the side skirts on this car, just save for another project in the future.
                              thanks,
